There is a tremendous need for good, reliable screenwriting critiquing groups and Scripters World is attempting to meet that need with SWCG.Anyone who is writing or has written a screenplay may join. Groups are made up of both SW Students and non-students. SW Students are now asked to join SWCG to use it in conjunction with the SW curriculum as they write a screenplay.
Info & Rules:
- Scripters World will provide the organizational needs to maintain as many groups as needed, but reserves the right to temporarily halt or discontinue the program.
- To join a SW Critiquing Group you will need to go to the SW Message Boards (Forums).
- SWCG encourages the groups accept both finished, unfinished and "starting from scratch" screenwriting projects. Each group can determine it's own policy in this regard. Please make your policy clear when seeking new member via your post on the Message Board.
- If after joining a group the other members find that a particular group member is lacking in the fundamentals of screenwriting and is not responding well to suggestions for improvement the group can recommend that the member in question read the SW Curriculum, in part or whole.
- All disputes will be arbitrated by Scripters World.
- All groups will have a group facilitator whos job is to maintain order and notify group members of updates and related information.
- All members must attend the meetings (if at all possible) which will be held in an IRC channel or something similar, the group will decide (we recommend mIRC). Each group will have their own place of meeting online. The group can determine how often and when they will meet. Usually the meetings are weekly and in the evenings. Summaries, outlines, character profiles and screenplay portions or entire scripts can be transfered while in the IRC chatrooms via DCC feature, which is fast and private (or by some other means). The group collectively decides these things.
- Special consideration will be given to overseas Associates which will probably have weekend meetings, though it may be bi-monthly, unless there are sufficient numbers in the same time zones.
- People may be restricted to participating in one group at a time.
- You must be willing to give writers your honest thoughts in a considerate manner. Expect to give and receive the good, the bad, and the ugly.
- You must agree to accept responsibility for protecting the copyright of your work. Scripters World provides SPPS (Script Project Protection System), which is free. See the "Copyright & Security" page for more information.
- You must be willing to devote time to giving others thoughtful and timely critiques. Don't keep your fellow writer waiting until after his re-writes are done. Try to keep it under one week.
- You must meet the SWCG submission to critique ratio. For every submission you make to your group, you must offer two critiques in exchange (2:1). This insures that every writer receives multiple opinions from different perspectives. The group facilitor will monitor the ratio.
